Respect and dignity matter
Where there is respect and dignity there is safety. There is stability. There is space to be brave, to be ourselves.
Respect and dignity creates an environment where people are not judged for who they are, where they are born, who they love or who they choose to be. Respect and dignity ensures that people are individuals. They are not defined by their HIV status, their actions or their behaviours.
Where there is respect and dignity, individuals create communities. Healthy, thriving communities where the future is filled with opportunity and hope. Where women and girls are equal to men and boys.
Respect and dignity is about moving from tolerance to acceptance. It’s about accepting people as they are when they show who they really are. It puts a person’s needs in front of where they come from, who they love, what they do or who they have sex with.
Where there is respect and dignity, a young woman can seek the information and means to protect herself from HIV and gender-based violence without fear of judgement or reprisal. A young gay man can access condoms and lubricants without worrying that he may be targeted for harassment.
Where there is respect and dignity, a pregnant woman can ask for an HIV test without fearing that her family will reject her. It creates space for a person who injects drugs can to seek treatment for HIV without risking imprisonment, or worse.
Where there is respect and dignity, people can access the information they need to keep themselves healthy. They can seek health services knowing that they will be treated professionally and that they will be given the best possible health care. They can apply for a job, or a house or a loan and know that they will be considered fairly. They can be active, committed citizens and their contribution to the community will be welcomed and valued.
Respect and dignity is about challenging society. It’s about moving from individual acceptance to taking a stand and challenging those who do not demonstrate acceptance. It’s about moving from passive observers to active agents of change against discrimination.
Commit to respect and dignity. The return is priceless.

El respeto y la dignidad importan
Cuando hay respeto y dignidad, hay seguridad. Hay estabilidad. Hay un espacio en el que podemos ser valientes y ser nosotros mismos.
El respeto y la dignidad crean un entorno en el que no se juzga a las personas por quiénes son, por dónde han nacido, por las personas a las que aman o por las personas que han elegido ser. El respeto y la dignidad garantizan la individualidad de las personas, que no se definen por su estado serológico, sus acciones o sus prácticas.
Cuando hay respeto y dignidad, las personas construyen comunidades sólidas y prósperas donde el futuro está repleto de oportunidades y esperanza y donde las mujeres y las niñas son iguales a los hombres y los niños.
El respeto y la dignidad consisten en pasar de la tolerancia a la aceptación, en aceptar a las personas tal y como son cuando muestran sus verdaderas identidades, en poner las necesidades de las personas por encima del lugar del que vengan, de las personas a las que amen, de cuáles sean sus acciones o de con quién se acuesten.
Cuando hay respeto y dignidad, una joven puede buscar la información y los medios para protegerse del VIH y de la violencia de género sin temor a ser juzgada o sufrir represalias, un joven homosexual puede procurarse preservativos y lubricantes sin tener que preocuparse de ser objeto de acoso.
Cuando hay respeto y dignidad, una mujer embarazada puede solicitar una prueba del VIH sin miedo a que su familia la rechace. Crea un espacio en el que las personas que se inyectan drogas pueden buscar tratamiento para el VIH sin arriesgarse a que las encarcelen o les hagan algo peor.
Cuando hay respeto y dignidad, las personas pueden acceder a la información que necesitan para preservar su salud. Pueden acudir a los servicios sanitarios con la confianza de que serán tratados con profesionalidad y de que se les proporcionará la mejor atención sanitaria posible. Pueden solicitar un empleo, una casa o un préstamo con la garantía de que no se les descartará injustamente. Pueden ser ciudadanos activos y comprometidos a sabiendas de que su contribución a la comunidad será bienvenida y apreciada.
El respeto y la dignidad tiene que ver con cuestionar a la sociedad, con pasar de la aceptación individual a la adopción de una postura consolidada desde la que se cuestione a aquellos que no acepten, con pasar de observadores pasivos a agentes activos del cambio contra la discriminación.

Respect et dignité : ça compte
Là où il y a du respect et de la dignité, il y a la sécurité. Il y a la stabilité. Il est possible d’être
courageux et d’être soi-même.
Le respect et la dignité créent un environnement dans lequel les gens ne sont pas jugés à cause de ce qu’ils sont, de leurs origines, de leurs amours ou de la personne qu’ils choisissent de devenir. Grâce au respect et à la dignité, les gens deviennent des individus. Ils ne sont pas définis par leur séropositivité au VIH, leurs actions ou leurs comportements.
Là où il y a du respect et de la dignité, les individus créent des communautés. Des communautés prospères où l’avenir est plein d’opportunités et d’espoir. Où les femmes et les filles sont égales aux hommes et aux garçons.
Le respect et la dignité, c’est passer de la tolérance à l’acceptation. Il s’agit d’accepter les gens comme ils sont quand ils montrent qui ils sont vraiment. Les besoins d’une personne passent avant ses origines, ses amours, ses activités ou ses choix de partenaires sexuels.
Là où il y a du respect et de la dignité, une jeune femme peut accéder aux informations et aux moyens pour se protéger contre le VIH et les violences sexistes sans peur du jugement ou des représailles. Un jeune homme gay peut accéder aux préservatifs et aux lubrifiants sans craindre d’être la cible de harcèlement.
Là où il y a du respect et de la dignité, une femme enceinte peut demander un test de dépistage du VIH sans avoir peur d’être rejetée par sa famille. Un consommateur de drogues injectables peut demander un traitement anti-VIH sans risquer la prison, ou pire.
Là où il y a du respect et de la dignité, les gens ont accès aux informations dont ils ont besoin pour rester en bonne santé. Ils peuvent accéder aux services de santé en sachant qu’ils seront traités de façon professionnelle et qu’on leur donnera les meilleurs soins possibles. Ils peuvent chercher un emploi, un logement ou demander un prêt en sachant qu’ils seront traités équitablement. Ils peuvent être des citoyens actifs et engagés et leur contribution à la communauté sera accueillie à sa juste valeur.
Le respect et la dignité, c’est faire bouger la société. C’est passer de l’acceptation individuelle à la prise de position contre ceux qui n’acceptent pas. C’est passer du statut d’observateur passif à celui d’agent actif du changement contre la discrimination.

Культура уважения безопасна. Она устойчива. В ней каждый может смело реализовать собственный потенциал.
Уважительное отношение к чужому достоинству формирует среду, где люди живут без осуждения. В ней каждый человек может иметь любое происхождение, любить кого угодно и быть тем, кем он хочет. В ней каждый человек уникален. Личность не определяется ВИЧ-статусом или образом жизни.
В культуре уважения из индивидуальностей складывается общество — здоровое и процветающее, развивающееся, полное возможностей и перспектив. В таком обществе женщины равны мужчинам.
Уважительное отношение означает переход от терпимости к принятию. В таком мире всех принимают такими, какие они есть, не требуя скрывать свою сущность. Главное — это их потребности, а не происхождение, любимый человек, род деятельности или пол сексуального партнера.
В обществе, построенном на принципах уважения, молодая женщина может найти информацию о мерах от ВИЧ и гендерного насилия, и ее не осудят и не будут за это преследовать. У молодого гомосексуального мужчины будет доступ к презервативам и смазкам — и он не станет жертвой притеснения.
В культуре уважения беременная женщина может провериться на ВИЧ, не опасаясь, что близкие отвернутся от нее. Человек, употребляющий инъекционные наркотики, получит лечение от ВИЧ-инфекции. Его не посадят в тюрьму. Его жизни никто не будет угрожать.
Все члены подобного общества имеют доступ к информации о том, как сохранить здоровье. Обращаясь за медицинскими услугами, они могут быть уверены, что получат лучшее лечение из существующего и профессиональный подход. Устраиваясь на работу, подавая заявку на ипотеку или другой кредит, они будут знать, что к ним отнесутся справедливо. В такой культуре люди становятся активными гражданами и знают, что их вклад в развитие общества будет оценен по достоинству.
Уважительное отношение ко всем требует от общества некоторых усилий. Недостаточно самому быть принимающим человеком — придется бросить вызов тем, кто не демонстрирует принятия. Пассивные наблюдатели должны превратиться в активистов движения против дискриминации.
